Jordanelle State Park, Park City, UT

P6090001

Arrived here Sunday after a short 45 mile drive from Provo. Jordanelle State Park is about 9 miles from Park City, and the campground overlooks the reservoir. We got a great site with lovely views of the water and mountains. And they have electric and water hookups.

The weather has been unseasonably wet and cold, with rain showers off and on for days, and more is predicted. It’s been intermittently clear, though, so we’ve still managed to get out and walk and explore the area. We hiked the Perimeter Lake trail until the thunder started.

We took a ride to Park City, and we were impressed. The main street has lots of nice, expensive shops and restaurants.

This moose is in front of one of the shops.

And this one is the Tanger Outlet Mall sign holder. They both made us smile.P6090001-1

We tried to come back to the state park on Deer Valley Road, since we had seen the sign for Deer Valley just outside the park entrance, and the GPS routed us that way. Unfortunately we came to a guarded gatehouse, the entrance to Deer Valley Estates. The guard said that the “fancy pants” who owned the $25 million estates wouldn’t even let him drive through. I looked online but could only find an $18 million property for sale. Maybe the declining housing  market  has hit there, too.

Today we drove to Salt Lake City, about 35 miles west, so Jim could buy a DVR/DTV converter. Since the store was only a few miles from downtown, we decided to check out Temple Square. We got kidnapped by a couple of very nice “sisters” who gave us a guided tour of the grounds. They tried to give us The Book of Mormon, but we politely declined, since we didn’t want any more books in the RV. The Tabernacle was impressive, but we were not allowed in the Temple. This is where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs.

And this is the Assembly Hall. The landscaping was beautiful.

P6100002 Leaving here tomorrow to head north, maybe into Idaho, as we work our way to Glacier.
